Pop. Das Wiener Jazz Fest hat eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass die Grenzen zwischen E- und U-Musik nicht nur zu verwischen beginnen, sondern jegliche kategorische Legitimation verloren haben.
Wenn das diesjährige Jazz Fest Wien heute seine vielen Pforten – von der Staatsoper bis zum Fernwärmewerk und diversen Szenetreffs – schließt, wird sich die musikalische Welt kaum verändert haben; für ein paar Gedanken gibt es aber durchaus (Schreib)-Potenzial.
Zum Einen tauchten die französischen Elektro-Virtuosen Nicolas Godin und Jean-Benoît Dunckel mit Air letzten Samstag die Wiener Staatsoper in ein Meer audiovisueller Gesamtkunst – was von der einheimischen (Pop)-Kritik einerseits erwartungsgemäß himmelhoch jauchzend aufgefasst und andererseits in der Luft (!) zerrissen wurde.
Fairerweise muss man dem Duo (plus Schlagzeuger) zu Gute halten, dass sie das Ambiente der imposanten Oper famos zu bespielen wussten und Popmusik in ein Umfeld verfrachteten, das an aufgeladener Hochkultur – man sehe vom alljährlichen Ballgeschehen ab – kaum zu überbieten ist.
Paradox erscheint in diesem Zusammenhang nur, dass Air sich nicht an die Oper anzupassen gedachte, sondern vielmehr ein auf Synthesizer, Schlagzeug und Computerstimme reduziertes Kunstwerk mit gewisser Kraftwerk-Ästhetik dem Publikum präsentierte.
Die Errungenschaft solcher Konzerte liegt vor allem darin, hochkultureller Erwartungshaltungen einem subkulturellen Diskurs zu unterwerfen, die sonst dem Dogma der ernsthaften, sprich E-Musik unterlegen sind. Die dem Popmetier angehörenden Künstler wittern dahingehend die Chance zu Klassikern zu mutierten, was auf der einen Seite erfreulich ist, da sie auch von anderen Kreisen wahrgenommen wird. Auf der anderen Seite birgt es aber auch die Gefahr, dass sie gesellschaftskritisch irrelevant werden und jegliches revolutionäres Potenzial verlieren.
Was aber durchaus erfreut, dass sich das Jazz Fest Wien nicht schubladisieren lässt. Hier darf jeder mal ran, egal ob Gitarrengott (Jeff Beck) oder wahre Jazz-Größe (Al Jarreau).
