Michael Haneke wird gut damit leben können, dass er nun doch keinen Academy Award für seinen jüngsten, bereits vielfach preisgekrönten Film aus Los Angeles mit nach Hause bringen kann. Schon im Vorfeld hatte Haneke „den Zirkus“, den man in Hollywood dieser Tage um ihn macht, gewohnt lakonisch kommentiert: Man mache das Spiel eben mit, weil das zum Job gehöre, mehr sei da nicht dran. Der Rest ist Schweigen. Die Oscar-Jury in der Kategorie Foreign Language Film zog dem stilistisch gewagten deutsch-österreichischen Historienschocker „Das weiße Band“ jedenfalls das sehr viel orthodoxere argentinische Drama „El secreto de sus ojos“ vor. Und die Entscheidung, „Avatar“-3D-Auge Mauro Fiore als besten Kameramann auszuzeichnen (und leider nicht den virtuosen Christian Berger für seine Arbeit an „Das weiße Band“), muss man nicht teilen, um sie verstehen zu können: That’s Hollywood!
Der diesjährige Triumph eines ganz anderen Films kam ebenfalls nicht ganz unerwartet. Die Zeit sei endlich gekommen, murmelte Barbra Streisand, ehe sie die Gewinnerin des Abends preisgab: Mit Kathryn Bigelow, deren Irak-Thriller „The Hurt Locker“ sehr zu Recht auch als bester Film akklamiert wurde, wurde erstmals in der Geschichte dieses Filmpreises eine Frau in der Kategorie Regie mit einem Oscar prämiert. Abgesehen von dem außerordentlichen Film, der da mit sechs Oscars zum Hauptgewinner avancierte, herrschten bei der 82. Oscar-Gala im Kodak Theatre in Hollywood bloß alte Mode und genuine Überraschungslosigkeit: Man sah termingerecht heruntergehungerte Ladies und erstarrte Moderatorenpaare, die ihr vorfabriziertes Infotainment von den Telepromptern abzulesen hatten. Steve Martin und Alec Baldwin leiteten mit mehrheitlich lahmen Scherzen durch die lange Nacht („There’s that damn Helen Mirren“ – „That’s Dame Helen Mirren!“), und mit Sandra Bullock und Jeff Bridges kürte man schließlich zwei immerhin grundsympathische Mimen zu besten Hauptdarstellern. Ein Song, intoniert von Sitcom-Größe Neil Patrick Harris, eröffnete die Show im Las-Vegas-Stil mit Federkleidchen und Schlagerschmalz sehr programmatisch: Der Geist der späten zwanziger Jahre wehte durch diese Oscar-Nacht.
Als gleich zu Beginn der Wiener Christoph Waltz zum besten Nebendarsteller gekürt wurde (obwohl der von ihm so denkwürdig gespielte Part des SS-Sarkasten Hans Landa in „Inglourious Basterds“ natürlich eine Hauptrolle ist), konnte man sehen, wie sich die Spannung im Gesicht des Schauspielers leicht verspätet löste, wie der Druck jäh von ihm abfiel. Man konnte das gut verstehen: Wenn einem Monate lang jeder sagt, dass man als Sieger ohnehin feststehe, kann man nur verlieren – oder, im allerbesten Fall, mit den Erwartungen gleichziehen. Waltz’ Dankesrede klang wie erwartet fein geschliffen und bestens geprobt: ein letztes Dankeschön an Quentin Tarantino und an die US-Filmindustrie, die Waltz so bald nicht mehr aus ihren Klauen lassen wird.
Den absurdesten Grund, die Oscar-Zeremonie zu mögen, konnte man jedoch schon vor dem Start der teuren Gala hören: Das Schöne an der Academy Awards-Show sei, dass man all seine Freunde endlich einmal wieder sehe, betonten Meryl Streep und Cameron Diaz treuherzig, in Ermangelung besserer Sprüche, am roten Teppich. Wie? Das Oscar-Ritual als Treffen alter Freunde? Im Saal, während der Show? Oder nachher bei Dinner und Party für ein paar Tausend hollywoodwichtiger Zeitgenossen? Die Oscars sind das Facebook der Weltfilmindustrie – aber glücklicherweise kann man sich bei ihnen nur einmal im Jahr einloggen.

das klingt wie ein best-of-auslandspresse.
vielleicht könnte man post festum als österreichisches medium beim herrn haneke einmal nachfragen, wieso er glaubt, zur wahl der jury “keinen kommentar” zu geben, anstatt dem argentinischen film zu gratulieren und sich positiv zu äußern, zur nominierung und zu all den preisen für seinen film. möglicherweise ist er in wiener neustadt jetzt unten durch, oder was glaubt der eigentlich? und beim bundeskanzlerempfang ist er dann schwerkrank? was ist los mit dem michael “99% san eh deppert” haneke und seinem “stilistisch gewagten deutsch-österreichischen Historienschocker”?
und bitte mehr texte zu themen, wo sie sich thematisch wohler fühlen.
