Aids. Mit Fassungslosigkeit reagierten österreichische Forscher und Mediziner, als ich sie um einen Kommentar zu der Aussage des Nobelpreisträgers Luc Montagnier bat, der in einem aktuellen Interview sagt, dass “ein gesundes Immunsystem mit dem HI-Virus binnen weniger Wochen von selbst fertig wird”. Montagnier hatte vor zwei Jahren den Medizinnobelpreis für die Entdeckung des HI-Virus erhalten. Dass gerade er jetzt solche Thesen vertrete, erklären sich etliche seiner Kollegen nun damit, dass Montagnier im Alter einfach durchgeknallt sei.
Viele wollten Montagniers Worte überhaupt nicht glauben, bis sie selbst das ungeschnittene Rohmaterial jenes Interviews sahen, das der mehrfach ausgezeichnete kanadische Dokumentarfilmer Brent W. Leung in seiner Filmdoku „House of Numbers“ veröffentlicht hatte. Eine Kurzfassung des Interviews ist auch auf Youtube zu sehen. Leung hatte das Material nun ungeschnitten ins Netz gestellt, weil er sich mit dem Vorwurf konfrontiert sah, er hätte beim Schneiden des Videomaterials manipuliert und Sätze von interviewten Forschern und Wissenschaftern aus dem Zusammenhang gerissen.
Im profil-Interview spricht Montagnier zwar von einem Missverständnis, er hätte nicht gemeint, dass ein bereits seit Jahren infizierter Mensch selbst mit dem Virus fertig werden würde – er sei allerdings davon überzeugt, dass ein gesundes Immunsystem eine frische Infektion erfolgreich bekämpfen könnte.
Laut Montagnier ist genau das der Grund dafür, warum es in Europa und Amerika nie zu einer Aids-Epidemie gekommen ist. Afrikaner hätten aufgrund der prekären Lebensumstände bereits ein geschwächtes Immunsystem und würden sich daher leichter infizieren als Europäer oder Nordamerikaner. Er gibt also Co-Faktoren wie Mangelernährung, mangelnder Hygiene und verseuchtem Trinkwasser zumindest eine Mitschuld an der Epidemie.
Diese Überzeugung teilt offenbar auch das österreichische Außenministerium. Die Hilfsorganisation Ärzte ohne Grenzen hatte den Vorwurf erhoben, Österreichs Politiker würden den Kampf gegen Aids nicht ernst genug nehmen. Nur eine Million US-Dollar wären bislang in den so wichtigen internationalen Fonds geflossen, der für den Kampf gegen Aids, Malaria und Tuberkulose geschaffen wurde. Sogar Irland hätte bereits 160 Millionen US-Dollar einbezahlt.
Der Pressesprecher des Außenministeriums, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, rief mich heute an und erklärte, dass das Ministerium im Gegensatz zu anderen europäischen Ländern tatsächlich extrem wenig in den globalen Aids-Fonds einbezahlt hätte. Man hätte sich allerdings auf andere Fonds konzentriert, bei denen die Aids-Hilfe nicht primär im Zentrum steht. Der Fokus sei auf Präventativmaßnahmen oder auf die von Luc Montagnier erwähnten Co-Faktoren gerichtet.
Aber diese Art von Hilfe geht im Kampf gegen das Virus, das gern als alleinverantwortlich für die grassierende Immunschwächekrankheit gesehen wird, häufig unter.
Der Filmemacher Brent W. Leung hat übrigens nun seine Dokumentation „House of Numbers“ vollständig als kostenlosen Videostream ins Netz gestellt.
